R3Kondo Vintage is a tribute to Txomin Rekondo.

On the slopes of Mount Igeldo, with San Sebastián as a backdrop, a project was conceived in 1964 that would transcend the boundaries of gastronomy: Rekondo. More than a restaurant, it is the embodiment of the passion of Txomin Rekondo, a man whose soul is divided between the art of restoration and the worship of wine. Heir to a family farm, Txomin not only preserved its walls, but transformed them into a temple where cuisine and oenology merge into a sublime experience.

The story of Rekondo is the story of unwavering dedication. Txomin, with a vision that went beyond the conventional, built a winery that is much more than a bottle warehouse. It is a sanctuary where each label tells a story, where each vintage is a journey through time. Its philosophy, etched in the soul of Rekondo, can be summed up in three pillars:

A unique wine for every soul: The tireless pursuit of perfect harmony between plate and glass, offering each diner a personalized and unrepeatable experience.
Craftsmanship in every detail: Meticulous care in the preparation of each dish, respect for Basque culinary tradition, and the exaltation of raw materials.
The soul of the terroir: A profound understanding of the product, a connection with the origin of each ingredient, and a celebration of the identity of each wine.
These principles, rooted in the heart of Rekondo, have elevated this ancient farmhouse to legendary status. Its cellars, which could easily house a future Wine Museum, jealously guard a priceless treasure: a collection of thousands of labels, the fruit of Txomin’s explorations in more than 20 countries. From the latest creations from emerging wineries to vintage gems that defy the passage of time, each bottle is a unique piece, selected with the precision of a goldsmith and the sensitivity of an artist.

But Rekondo’s true pride lies not in quantity, but in the quality of its oenological treasure. Wines that have matured over time, that have acquired a complexity and depth that make them objects of desire for the most discerning palates. Some of these bottles, authentic relics, are not within everyone’s reach. It’s not a question of price, but of the conviction that they should be appreciated by those who understand their intrinsic value.

Rekondo is an experience that transcends gastronomy. It is a journey through the senses, an immersion in wine culture, an encounter with passion and attention to detail. It is a place where time stands still, where beauty is savored in every dish and every glass.

Recognized by Michelin, awarded by Repsol, and praised by the Guru Guide, Rekondo has won over the palates of even the most demanding critics. The prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator has named its collection one of the most important and influential in the world, and La Revue du vin de France, the leading wine publication, has succumbed to the charm of this Gipuzkoan farmhouse.

Rekondo, in short, is much more than a restaurant. It is a legacy, a philosophy, a passion transformed into art.

Description

Winery: Chateau Branaire-Ducru
Origin: Bordeaux
Appellation: Bordeaux Saint-Julien AOC

Château Branaire-Ducru is ranked fourth among the grand cru classé of the AOC St Julien in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. It is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle and produces 300,000 bottles per year.

Ownership changed hands during the 1988 harvest. The new owner, La Sucrerie de Toury, hired Philippe Dhaluin as manager, who then took over the management of Château Mouton-Rothschild. Château Branaire-Ducru is located across the road from Château Beychevelle, south of the St-Julien appellation.

Since 1988, the estate has invested heavily in new plantings, as well as in the installation of a new, ultra-modern vat room and cellar.

The estate’s great wine is the fruit of Branaire-Ducru’s 60 hectares of vineyards, which are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (22%), Cabernet Franc (5%), and Petit Verdot (3%). The wines are aged in oak barrels (65% new). The proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend is even higher than in the vineyards: between 80 and 85% in most years, making it one of the highest in the Médoc. Branaire-Ducru produces a pure and classic St-Julien, elegant, ripe, smooth, and well-balanced.
