Almost 200 years later, they decided to dive into the whiskey market in 1946, producing very high quality whiskeys and limited editions that are exported all over the world.
The company took a step forward in the 1980s with Cherrhisky, relying heavily on imported Scotch whiskey and molasses-based liqueur. At that time, they were Tohoku’s main “Ji-whiskey” producer.
After that particular whiskey boom ended, Sasanokawa Shuzo stopped distilling his own whiskey at the Yamazakura Distillery. They also had many stocks that matured in different barrels at the distillery.
Despite not making their own whiskey at the time, the famous company came to the rescue of Ichiro Akuto, who needed a place to store around 400 barrels of Hanyu in 2004. A company that they eventually bought to become Asaka.
