Ichiro Akuto’s output isn’t just comprised of expensive single malts, in fact, the Japanese distiller created the perfect blended whiskey and then left it to age in a barrel.

The perfect single malt Japanese whiskey blended by Ichiro’s Malt is created from single malt whiskeys from the Chichibu Distillery distilled in 2000 and selected by Ichiro himself.

These single malts are aged in oak barrels that previously held French wines from the Bordeaux region.

Ichiro’s single malt blend is finished in wine casks, the rather unique ovule casks, which are egg-shaped 20hl barrels of French oak, modeled in the Charentes region by the Taransaud company.

Rare casks are used in the Bordeaux region, where they have some oenological advantages, but they are never used in whiskey.

The Ovum ex Bordeaux red wine French oak barrel is different from European barrels in that it emits more perfumes and works more on single malts.

The “Japanese Blended Whiskey” “Wine Wood Reserve” expresses all the wisdom, in the art of distilling, of Ichiro Akuto, owner of the Chichibu Distillery and the Hanyu Distillery.

Bottled in 2017, it is very balanced and is made up of young single malt whiskeys that take on a lot of character from the barrel previously used for red wines.

A round and smooth whiskey that can be tasted after lunch, after dinner or as an aperitif, every day and never tires!

From the very first taste, you can recognize all the distinctive features of the best known and best Japanese blended whiskeys and, thanks to its peculiar vigour, it knows how to win over the most expert aficionados.

Flavor notes:

Nose: Explosive with hints of candied orange and chocolate, black licorice and creamy malt.

Mouth: sweetness of red fruits, nuts and oily dried fruits, and a pinch of white pepper.

Finish: persistently spicy, with a touch of dark chocolate.

If you are a collector of Japanese whiskey and Ichiro Akuto whiskey, you certainly cannot miss this rare release with the original box.

The “Wine Wood Reserve” of Ichiro blended Japanese Whiskey will be paired with a wonderful medium-sized Cohiba cigar. For the slow smoke enthusiast, we recommend pairing with a St. James Flake.
